Bagpipes have a long tradition of being played at these somber occasions which can be put down to their military history and the haunting sound produced by a lament being played in the background.

Piping at Funerals is commonly two distinctive parts.

The Service
The piper can play as the mourners arrive
Often the bereaved ask for the casket to be piped in from the car
A musical interlude can also be done with Amazing Grace, Mist Covered Mountains or many others
The piper can then play as the casket is taken from the service to the car and while people leave

The Graveside Service
The piper can play in the distance as the mourners arrive
Amazing Grace is often requested at the end of the service
The piper can play as people leave the graveside
